Brute Scholastic Duals to showcase state underclassman teams at Delaware State Univ., April 8-9

Manheim, PA) The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) and the Delaware Wrestling Alliance (DWA) through the sponsorship of Brute will be hosting the 11th annual NWCA/DWA Brute Scholastic Duals April 8-9, 2005 at Memorial Hall on the campus of Delaware State University. This USA Wrestling sanctioned event is one of the nation's most successful underclassman team tournaments. The Brute Scholastic Duals, which is entering its 11th year, is a showcase for upcoming talent as no seniors are allowed to compete in this state versus state, folkstyle dual meet competition. The 2004 Brute Scholastic Duals featured 20 state teams representing 19 states across the country. The event had a talented field that consisted of 50 state champions, 85 state finalist and 187 state place winners. Team Pennsylvania Blue is the returning team champion. The 2005 Scholastic Duals field looks to be as strong as ever. A total of 22 teams will compete over the two-day event wrestling between seven to eight dual meets. This year's field includes: Colorado, Delaware Blue, Delaware Gold, Florida, Illinois, Indiana Blue, Indiana Gold, Maryland Gold, Maryland Silver, Michigan, New England, New Jersey Blue, New Jersey Red, New York Blue, New York Gold, Ohio, Ohio Eds, Oregon, Pennsylvania Blue, Pennsylvania Gold, Virginia Blue and Virginia Orange. Teams will be seeded one through eight and will compete in pool competition all day on Friday. The top two teams of each pool will advance to an eight-team bracket championship on Saturday to compete for the scholastic duals title. The finals are scheduled for 3pm EST.
