Five wrestlers repeat as champions at Kids/Cadet Folkstyle Nationals; Slyter wins fourth straight

Cedar Falls, Iowa - 68 wrestlers took their first step towards became a 2005 USA Wrestling Triple Crown winner at the UNI-Dome with gold medals at the Kids/Cadet Folkstyle National Championships.c    Of those 68 champions, five won a title for the second consecutive year. That includes Sharky Slyter of Kansas, who has now won four consecutive national titles at the Kids Folkstyle National Championships.    This year, Slyter won the 75-pound title in the Schoolboy/Girl age group (born 1991-92). In the finals, Slyter defeated 2005 Ultimate Dominator Award winner Clark Glass of Florida, 5-2.    Along with his four straight folkstyle national titles, Slyter has also won two straight USA Wrestling Triple Crowns, and his win in Cedar Falls puts him on track for a third consecutive Triple Crown award.    Repeating as champions in the Midget age group were Noah Teaney of Missouri at 55 lbs. and Chris Schleuger of Iowa at 120+ lbs.    Teaney downed Dylan Lucas of Florida 4-1 in the finals. Schleuger defeated 2004 folkstyle national champion Alexander Lennartson of Wisconsin 4-2 in the gold-medal bout.    In the Cadet division (born 1989-90), Eric Grajales of Florida and Torrey Line of Minnesota repeated as champions.    Grajales defeated Josh Haugen of Oklahoma 6-2 in the 98-pound final. Line came out on top of an exciting 10-8 win over Tyson Wood of Minnesota at 171 lbs.    Winners of the Kids/Cadet Folkstyle National Championships are now eligible to win the coveted USA Wrestling Triple Crown. Those athletes must continue to win at their respective freestyle and Greco-Roman national championship events. Winners of national titles in all three styles will be awarded the Triple Crown award.    The Kids Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships will be held June 29-July 2 in Green Bay, Wis. The Cadet Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships will be held July 23-29 in Fargo, N.D.
