Army wins overall team title at U.S. Armed Forces Championships

The U.S. Army swept all its dual meets and won the Armed Forces Championships in both freestyle and Greco-Roman in Colorado Springs, Colo., March 31-April 1. The individual winners in each weight class in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at the U.S. Armed Forces Championships qualify for the World Military Championships to be held in Lithuania in August. Overall team standings based on total team points and classification points were: Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy. The classification points were used to determine the second place team due to a tie based on total team points. In freestyle, Army finished on top, followed by the Air Force, the Marines and the Navy. This marks the first time the Air Force has beaten the Marine Corps in freestyle dual competition. The Army had the most freestyle medalist with six: Eric Alberracin at 55 kg/121 lbs.; Duaine Martin at 60 kg/132 lbs.; Oscar Wood at 66 kg/145 lbs.; James Henderson at 74 kg/163 lbs.; Albert Sankey at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. and Dremiel Byers at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Jacob Clark of the U.S. Marines won the only other individual medal at 84 kg/185 lbs. In Greco-Roman, with a record of 2-1, the U.S. Marine Corps took second place, followed by the Air Force with a 1-2 record and the U.S. Navy at fourth at 0-4. The Army finished with four individual champions: Neil Rodak at 55 kg/121 lbs., Glen Garrison at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Jess Hargrave at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Dremiel Byers at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Other individual champions were Jacob Hey of the U.S. Air Force at 60 kg/132 lbs., Jacob Clark of the U.S. Marine Corps at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Philip Johnston of the U.S. Air Force at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Winning double titles, taking both the freestyle and Greco-Roman gold medals were Clark and Byers.
