James Ravannack of Metarie, La., a successful businessman in the off-shore oil industry and a leader within international wrestling, will be inducted as an Outstanding American by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Ravannack will join other former wrestlers who became prominent citizens and are enshrined in the Hall of Outstanding Americans.    The Hall of Outstanding Americans demonstrates wrestling's pride in those who have used the disciplines of the sport to launch notable careers in other walks of life, such as science and technology, business and industry, government and the military, and the arts and humanities.    Ravannack was a state wrestling champion for East Jefferson High School in Louisiana, and competed on the college level for Louisiana State University. Ravannack was also a high school wrestling coach from 1984-1998. He has been a leader on the national level with USA Wrestling, wrestling's national governing body, for many years.    He has made significant contributions to the off-shore oil industry during his lifetime, showing great skills as a businessman and entrepreneur. Ravannack and his companies are credited with the world's largest plug-and-abandonment operations, lift boat operations and slick line operations.     One of the companies he co-founded, Superior Energy, is a leader in developing technologies and specialized equipment for marine conservation and off -shore plug-and-abandonment.     In 1989, Ravannack co-founded Superior Well Services. In 1995, the company performed a "reverse merger" with the NASDAQ Stock Exchange, to create Superior Energy. Previously, Superior Energy had a net worth of $10 million. Today the company is valued at $1.5 billion.    In 2001, he founded Compliance Technology Group, a developer of software for oil production operations, which is prominent throughout the Gulf Coast and across the world. Compliance Technology Group is a unique firm on the leading edge of software development for the oil industry.    Compliance Technology Group is the industry leader in a specialized field, producing designed custom applications for its clients. The company has serviced over 1,500 producing platforms with software. Compliance Technology Group was the first company to successfully perform a virtual inspection with an oil company for the federal Minerals Management Service.    In 1999, Ravannack co-founded El Condor Resources, which manages gold mining exploration in Guatemala. Through a number of various contracts, the company holds a large number of mining leases in Guatemala. In 2004, the company went public on the Vancouver Stock Exchange and became Goldex Resources. Ravannack remains the company's largest stockholder, and Goldex Resources is actively exploring for gold reserves in Guatemala.    Many within the sport know Ravannack specifically for his leadership and commitment to amateur wrestling on all of its levels. Ravannack was named 2001 Man of the Year by USA Wrestling, which recognizes an outstanding man for his contributions to the sport of wrestling.    Ravannack served as Team Leader of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team for freestyle wrestling which competed in Athens, Greece. He also served as a team leader for other U.S. international teams, including the 2003 Senior Freestyle World Team, the 2003 Pan American Games Freestyle Team, the 2001 Senior Freestyle World Team and the 1999 Senior Freestyle World Team. He also served as a Team Leader at the 1998 Goodwill Games.    He currently serves as First Vice President of USA Wrestling, and a member of USA Wrestling's Executive Committee. Ravannack previously served as Secretary of USA Wrestling.     Ravannack has been the USA Wrestling state chairperson in Louisiana since 1996, organizing and developing wrestling activities in his state.     He served as the Event Director for numerous USA Wrestling national and regional events, including the Southeast Junior Regional Championships on an annual basis. He has hosted a number of World Dual meets in New Orleans, La. Other major events held in his state have been the Greco-Roman World Team Trials, the Regional Olympic Trials, the Women's Junior and Cadet National Championships as well as an International Junior Festival.    Ravannack founded the Gator Wrestling Club, which trains and supports talented Senior-level wrestlers in all three styles. He has built and organized a USA Wrestling Regional Olympic Training Center in Louisiana, which is open for kids and provides opportunity for all levels of wrestling.    He has been a significant contributor to "Wrestling for the Next Millennium," the joint capital campaign for wrestling.  Ravannack serves as a member of the Board of Governors for the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum.     His wife is Jocel, and their family includes Chad, Claire, Kay and Logan, all with an interest and involvement in wrestling.    Ravannack will be inducted along with other award winners during Honors Weekend at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Okla., June 3-4.
