Junior Regional Championships test skills of high school wrestlers across the country

The popular USA Wrestling Junior Regional Championships will be held around the country this spring, providing the nation's high school wrestling stars with an opportunity to test themselves against athletes from other states.    USA Wrestling hosts eight Junior Regionals each year, presenting top competition in locations accessible to all wrestlers. Competition is held in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Athletes in grades 9-12 are eligible to attend. Weight classes that will be competed are 98 lbs., 105 lbs., 112 lbs., 119 lbs., 125 lbs., 130 lbs., 135 lbs., 140 lbs., 145 lbs., 152 lbs., 160 lbs., 171 lbs., 189 lbs., 215 lbs. and 275 lbs.    The top three place winners in each weight class at each event will qualify for their state's ASICS Junior Nationals Team. The Junior Nationals Championship will be held in Fargo, North Dakota at the end of July. Many Junior wrestlers choose to enter a number of Regional tournaments each year.    Junior wrestlers who compete in the international style in the spring and summer improve drastically each year. Those high school wrestlers who enter the Junior Regionals are taking an important step towards success during the next wrestling season.
