MEN'S FREESTYLE CHAMPIONS 96 kg/211.5 lbs. - David Rechul (USA-New York AC) "In my quarterfinals, against Zach Thompson, I was 0-3 against him. I figured if he couldn't score on me, I'd keep it to the end and go to the clinch. I am comfortable in both positions there. I had two clinches. That was a nice change there. In the finals, Mo is an excellent athlete. In practice, we go even. Most of the time he beats me on the feet. I knew it would be hard to beat him. My adjustment was to keep things close, because he is a good outside shooter. Recently, the coaches have been telling me I have been better in the practice room. I have a new job, I felt better sometimes when I am off the mat. In the last 14 days, I have been on the mat once. I have been cross-training. I worked 101 hours the last two weeks, all night shift. But it worked out for me." GRECO-ROMAN CHAMPIONS 55 kg/121 lbs. - Joseph Betterman (USA-New York AC) "Last year I took fifth here. This year I was first, and placed ahead of people ranked ahead of me. The Belarussian beat me at the Kit Carson International last week. It was good to come in and get a win from him. You can't give up. My coaches all tell me to never give up. If you are losing, you have to try anything the last few seconds." 6 kg/145.5 lbs. - Harry Lester (USA - Gator WC) "This is my first time winning this. I have been coming here for the last three or four years. I am training really hard this year. I know I can beat all these guys. I have to stay consistent. I believe I can wrestle better. My goal was to be consistent, and that is what I did. I want to be the No. 1 guy, the best guy in the weight class this year. That is my goal." 120 kg/264.5 lbs. - Dremiel Byers (USA-U.S. Army) "I should have been more active. I wanted to see what he was going to do. Every time I wrestle him, he's better. He is the guy who is coming. Everybody else walked away and retired. Beijing is not that far away. It flies by. I am being busy, being a soldier and it just flies by. I don't have a medal to show at the Olympics. It is pushing me now." WOMEN'S FREESTYLE CHAMPIONS 55 kg/121 lbs. - Tina George (USA- New York AC) "I caught a flu-type thing. I showed symptoms yesterday. They are now full force. I had to struggle through it. Breathing was difficult and painful. I'm not really in shape. I hurt my shoulder after Christmas. I just started to drill technique on Tuesday. Today was the first time I went full go in a month. I am not sure that wrestling was the smartest thing I have ever done. I wanted to know how it would feel out there." 63 kg/138.75 lbs. - Alaina Berube (USA-New York AC) "I felt really good. I had a great tournament. I didn't give up a point the entire tournament. This is nice to see some other competition, so I'm not wrestling the same girls over and over again. I feel I have a real good shot this year." 74 kg/163 lbs. - Donny Pritzlaff (USA-New York AC) "When I got behind right away, I thought I'd try to wear him down for the last minute of the period. I wanted to take a little out of him. He came out hard, and he is real explosive. I got my offense going throughout the match. I haven't won this tournament since my first year here. It is nice to get a win three years later. The competition wasn't overly strong, but when you win, you can't get any better than that. It shows that my training is coming along. I am real confident for this year."
