USA WRESTLING/CALIFORNIA SETS MEMBERSHIP RECORD BY REGISTERING MORE THAN 14,000 ATHLETES IN 1999-2000 YEAR USA Wrestling's California State Association set an all-time record by registering over 14,000 USA Wrestling athlete competitors in a single membership year. For the 1999-2000 membership year, USAW/California has registered 14,097 athletes. These statistics are as of July 30, 2000. The membership year ends on August 30, so it is possible that the record number of members will increase during the final month. This breaks the USA Wrestling record of 13,447 athletes registered, set by USAW/California during the 1992 membership year. Under the leadership of long-time State Chairperson Leroy Evans of Hughson, Calif., the USAW/California State Association has been a flagship within the organization. California was the first association to register more than 10,000 members, and has increased steadily over the years, setting new records many times. The new membership record is a tribute to the hard work of parents, volunteers and state leaders within the California Association. Their dedicated efforts have provided quality programs to the athlete membership in the state. USA Wrestling's motto of "Real Wrestling. Real Heroes." is exemplified throughout the entire California Association.
