COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The United States Olympic Committee announced today the appointment of Steven Brunner to the position of Director of National Governing Body (NGB) Marketing. Working under the leadership of USOC Senior Managing Director, Sport Resources Jim Scherr and along side fellow Director of NGB Marketing Blair Tripodi, Brunner will develop strategic joint marketing partnerships between the USOC sponsors and the sport governing bodies throughout the United States. Brunner's key objective is to strategically align the USOC sponsor family with NGB properties, providing added value to sponsors while delivering incremental revenue to the NGB family. Brunner joins the USOC with over 16-years of integrated marketing experience with an emphasis in the areas of NGB management, brand marketing, large-scale event management and public relations. Most recently, Brunner was Associate Executive Director of Development for USA Wrestling. As Associate Executive Director, Brunner directed all marketing and communication programs as well as long-range strategic plans for the 150,000 member-based organization. As part of the organization's strategic plan, Brunner oversaw all aspects of brand development that included the internet and wrestling broadcasts. Under Brunner's leadership, USA Wrestling increased sponsorship 300% with the introduction of new sales and promotions initiatives and the repositioning of the sport through a national identity program that included the slogan "Real Wrestling. Real Heroes." Prior to his work with USA Wrestling, Brunner used his talents and familiarity with the Olympic Movement as Director of Marketing and Development for Turner Sports, overseeing all marketing and brand development for the 1998 Goodwill Games. He directed a $15 million budget that he leveraged into promotions worth over $100 million using Time Warner Inc. and Turner in-house assets. Brunner gained a wealth of marketing experience as a vice president with Medalist Sports Marketing Agency from 1988-1996. Medalist Sports specializes in Olympic-related marketing consultation and event production. As a vice president, Brunner's clients included U.S. Speed Skating, USA Cycling and USA Track and Field. As part of his integrated marketing initiatives at Medalist Sports, Brunner created platforms for sponsors with optional benefits at the international, national and regional levels. In his tenure, Brunner helped leverage a 10 to 1 dollar ratio annually for sponsors. Brunner received a Bachelor of Art degree in journalism with minors in business, marketing and English from the University of Wisconsin in 1985. He is married with two sons.
