Respected wrestling leader Professor Amir Hamidi of Iran dies at age 82

USA Wrestling has been notified by the Iranian wrestling federation that one of its most respected international leaders, Professor Amir Hamidi, passed away at the age of 82 in Tehran. Professor Hamidi has served as Head of the International Wrestling Institute in Iran. He has been a leader within wrestling for most of his life, and has made many friends within the sport around the world. "Mr. Hamidi was a good friend and very instrumental in building our relationship with the Iranian Wrestling Federation," said Rich Bender, USA Wrestling's Executive Director. "We share our condolences with the entire Iranian wrestling community, as well as all of Mr. Hamidi's friends and family." The following story appeared in the Tehran Times concerning Mr. Hamidi: Long-serving wrestling professor Hamidi dies TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Professor Amir Hamidi, who served the world of wrestling for over 60 years, died of a heart failure at the age of 82 here Sunday night. He earned his place in wrestling books as the first international master. Hamidi went to India in 1960s to teach the wrestlers and trainers. Before his death, the aged Hamidi was serving the Iranian Wrestling Federation as international relations manager and head of IFF's International Wrestling Institute.
