TO ALL THE FILA BUREAU MEMBERS TO ALL THE NATIONAL FEDERATIONS Subject: final decision concerning the 50 kg senior weight category On the occasion of the FILA Athens Congress during the Olympic Games, it was decided to postpone the decision concerning the proposal which were submitted to include a new 50 kg weight category for the seniors in FILA competitions, in view to have the possibility to thoroughly analysed the consequences of such a decision towards the IOC. On the occassion of its meeting on December 8th, 2004 and after analysis of the situation, the Executive Committee considered that, taking into account the IOC's intention to reduce the number of competitions and sports on the programme of the Olympic Games, the implementation of a new weight category, even if used only for FILA competitions, could be appreciated as to be provocative. The creation of an additional category for the seniors is definitely rejected and the organizers of competitions controlled by FILA must keep strictly to the 7 weight categories mentioned in the International Wrestling Rules. Independently of this decision, FILA requested the IOC to examine the possibility to include the 7 Feminine Wrestling weight categories, while keeping the 7 weight categories of Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling which are currently included on the programme of the Olympic Games. I thank you for your understanding. Raphael Martinetti FILA President
