BICKLEY NAMED FHSU HEAD WRESTLING COACH: Former Fort Hays State University standout wrestler Cody Bickley will lead the Tiger wrestling program in 2000-01. The former Tiger wrestler was named the new FHSU head wrestling coach after serving as assistant coach for the Tigers from 1998-2000 and as student assistant during the 1997-98 season. During that time, FHSU finished 12th, 11th and 9th at the NCAA II Championships. Bickley will be replacing Bob Smith, head coach for the past eight seasons who is retiring from the Athletic Department in December. Smith will assist in the transition during the upcoming season. A native of Otis, Colo., Bickley wrestled for the Tigers from 1993-97. He served as a team captain his sophomore, junior and senior seasons with the Tigers. Bickley was a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champion at 125 pounds in 1997. He helped lead FHSU to a second-place finish at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships and a tenth-place finish at the NCAA II National Championships his senior season. During the 1996-97 school year he served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He also received the FHSU Student-Athlete Award all four years during his college competition. "Cody brings a combination of youth and experience to the Tiger wrestling program," said FHSU Director of Athletics Tom Spicer. "We expect him to carry on the tradition of Tiger wrestling as it continues to progress toward the next level."
