Five wrestlers seeking to repeat at the Beast of the East, Dec. 18-19

Newark, DE -- Dec. 2004 - Five individuals are looking to repeat as champions at the 12th Annual "BRUTE Beast of the East", December 18th & 19th at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center.    Minnesota recruit Dustin Schlatter from Massillon Perry Ohio leads the five returning champions.  The consensus #1 recruit in the USA, Schlatter walked through the 2003 Beast separating himself from the #2 ranked Troy Tirapelle from Clovis CA.      2X undefeated NJ State champion Mike Grey from Delbarton HS, only a junior looking to repeat his performance from 2003.      Blair Academy standout, Cornell bound Adam Frey returns to defend at 130lbs, Frey finished his 2003-04 season undefeated including titles at the Ironman, Bethlehem Holiday and a National Prep championship.      Aaron Hart from St. Paris Graham Ohio returns as the 103lb champion, looking to grab a title up a weight class in 2004.      Mack Lewnes from Mt St Joseph HS will be vying for his 2nd Beast title, Lewnes also captured a National Prep Title last year.    Missing from the field, 2X Beast Champion Troy Nickerson from Chenango Forks, NY.  Teams from New York were denied approval to compete in this year's tournament.      80 teams represented from 15 states, including first time representatives from Texas (Bishop Lynch) and Florida (Brandon) are competing. We also welcome back the teams from Virginia who required state waivers to participate on Sundays!      Seeding for the 2004 Beast will be announced on Wednesday, Dec 15th.     The 3rd Annual Collegiate Invitational will be held on Friday, Dec 17th, Rider University ranked #23 by Intermat leads the 14-team field. Besides the statistics, we are all volunteers (including the Tournament Director and Officials), all proceeds benefit the Delaware Wrestlers Scholarship fund, awarded to wrestlers in Delaware who meet criteria in the fields of academics, sportsmanship, and community service. We have awarded over $190,000 from the proceeds of the previous 11 tournaments.
