Cumberland wins Championship Cup of women’s college wrestling, beating Simon Fraser in the finals

Cumberland College, an American school from Kentucky, defeated Canada's top college team, Simon Fraser, in the gold-medal finals of the Championship Cup of Women's Wrestling, held at Lakehead Univ. in Thunder Bay, Canada, Nov. 20 Cumberland won four of the seven matches in the dual meet, capped off by a pin at 80 kg by 2004 Olympian Toccara Montgomery over Shaila Turcotte. Other Cumberland winners in the dual meet were Othella Lucas (53 kg), Suekoilya Shelly (57 kg) and Heather Martin (65 kg). Winning bouts for Simon Fraser in that final dual meet were Ashley McKilligan (48 kg), Emily Richardson (61 kg) and Ashlea McManus (70 kg). Along the way, Cumberland also scored wins over Lakehead, Calgary, Memorial and Western Ontario. Calgary placed third, defeating Lakehead in the bronze medal match. Western Ontario was fifth, stopping Brock in the medal round. Taking seventh was Memorial, which defeated Alberta in the final bout.
