Badgers Take Season Opener 46-6 over UW-Oshkosh

MADISON, Wis. - In the 2004-05 season opener, the 18th-ranked Wisconsin wrestling team defeated UW-Oshkosh 46-6 Friday afternoon at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay, Wis. This is the 15th year in a row that Wisconsin has started out 1-0 as UW-Oshkosh falls to 0-1. Wisconsin won nine out of the ten weight classes, forfeiting 125 pounds. At 133, returning Big Ten Champion Tom Clum set the tone for the team by pinning Jeremy Van Schyndel in 1:22. The Badgers never looked back after this earning two more pins, three major decisions and a technical fall victory. Spring Valley, Wis., native, Tony Turner earned his first dual victory of the season defeating Doug Rozelman for an 8-0 major decision win. Up next was true freshman Craig Henning at 149 pounds. Henning made quick work of his first collegiate opponent pinning Matt Kehoe in 4:48. At 174, junior tri-captain Kelly Flaherty took his first technical fall victory of the season over Adam Dorner winning 20-3. Identical twin brother, Ryan, moved up to heavyweight for his match as he earned Wisconsin's third pin of the day finishing Mike Farchione in 1:56. First time varsity wrestlers Jake Donar and Matt Maciag each won major decision victories in their first varsity action with 14-1 and 14-2 victories, respectively.
