All matches will be held at the Bryce Jordan Center. Session I will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. (CT), while Session II will begin at 7 p.m. (CT) Saturday. Session III will be held Sunday with the consolation matches starting at 10 a.m. (CT) and the finals beginning at 1 p.m. (CT). The field for the 16-team dual tournament includes Arizona State, Edinboro, Hofstra, Iowa State, Lehigh, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana State-Northern, Montclair State, Nebraska, Nebraska-Omaha, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Penn State and Virginia Tech. In addition to the 10 Hawkeyes listed above, sophomore Matt Anderson and redshirt freshmen Luke Eustice, Cliff Moore, Tyler Nixt and Randy Fulsaas will also be traveling to University Park, PA. Anderson is 14-5 overall at 165 pounds, Eustice is 13-4 overall and 1-0 in duals at 125, Moore is 17-3 overall and 1-0 in duals at 133, Nixt is 17-6 overall and 1-0 in duals at 174 and Fulsaas is 7-8 overall and 1-4 in duals at heavyweight this season. TICKET INFORMATION All-session tickets for the 2001 N.W.C.A. National Duals are $25, and single session tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for youth and seniors. NATIONAL DUALS BRACKET DRAWING & PRESS CONFERENCE A pre-meet press conference will be held Friday at Noon (CT) in Room F of the Bryce Jordan Center. Coaches from the top three teams ranked by the N.W.C.A. Coaches Poll be asked to speak. During the press conference, the top eight seeds, which will be determined by the top eight teams in the last N.W.C.A. Coaches Poll released prior to the competition, will draw from the remaining eight teams to determine their first round opponents. Meet brackets will be available approximately one hour after the draw. NATIONAL DUALS HISTORY The Hawkeyes have competed at the National Duals 10 times, winning the tournament three times, placing second three times and placing third four times. Iowa has a 37-5-1 record at the tournament. Oklahoma State has won the tournament five times, Penn State has won the team title twice and Iowa State and Minnesota have each won the National Duals once. HEAD COACH JIM ZALESKY Jim Zalesky is in his fourth season as head coach at the University of Iowa. He has a school and career record of 53-8 (.869). He has led the Hawkeyes to three consecutive national titles (1998-00) and two Big Ten titles (1998, 2000). A three-time national champion and and one of Iowa's 15 four-time all-Americans, Zalesky served as assistant coach and head recruiter under Dan Gable, at Iowa, for seven seasons (1991-97). He was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the N.W.C.A. in 1992 and 1997. Undefeated his junior and senior seasons, Zalesky ended his career on an 89-match winning streak. ZALESKY SAYS "Everybody is looking forward to the competition this weekend. It will be good to see where we are as a team, and for our guys to have some good individual matchups. No matter who we wrestle, it will be good competition." LAST WEEK Iowa improved to 9-1 with victories over Hofstra (40-3) Saturday night in Iowa City, and over Northwestern (45-3) Sunday afternoon in Evanston, IL. The Hawkeyes got off to a slow start against Hofstra going 1-1 at 197 pounds and heavyweight before using major decisions by seniors Jody Strittmatter and Eric Juergens at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively, and a third-period pin by senior Doug Schwab at 141 to widen the gap. Junior Mike Zadick scored a takedown with four seconds left in the 149-pound match to record a 4-3 victory, and senior T.J. Williams recorded 10 nearfall points in his 18-2 technical fall, which stopped his 157-pound match at the 5:16 mark. Junior Ben Shirk overcame a first period deficit to win an 8-6 decision at 165 pounds. Senior Gabe McMahan and junior Jessman Smith rounded out the night, with McMahan winning by injury default at 174 and Smith's opponent being disqualified in the second period at 184. Iowa gave a glimpse into the future of its program, using new faces to achieve the same result in the win over Northwestern. The Hawkeye lineup had a different, more youthful look as Strittmatter, Schwab and McMahan did not compete in order to stay within the number of competition dates allowed by the NCAA. Ryan Fulsaas started the meet with a 3-0 victory at 197 pounds. Liddle dropped a 10-5 decision at heavyweight before Iowa redshirt freshmen Luke Eustice and Cliff Moore made their dual meet debuts. Eustice dominated his match at 125, scoring a 21-5 technical fall, and Moore received a forfeit at 133. Juergens moved up to 141 to replace Schwab, and he and Zadick recorded back-to-back pins. Williams scored a 24-10 major decision at 157 before Shirk recorded a 2:10 pin at 165. Redshirt freshman Tyler Nixt made his dual debut victorious at 174 pounds, scoring an 11-5 win. Smith ended the meet with a 4:17 pin at 184. SENIORS ON A MISSION Iowa's lineup includes five seniors this season. Here are a few items about each: Jody Strittmatter -- 125 pounds Strittmatter is 12-1 this season, 8-1 in dual competition. His record at Iowa is 43-3, and his overall career record, which includes two seasons at Division III Pittsburgh-Johnstown is 130-6. The two-time Division III NCAA Champion won a title at the 2000 Midlands. The 2000 all-American has 15 pins at Iowa, and a career record of 60 pins. Eric Juergens -- 133 pounds Juergens is 9-1, all in duals, this season. His career record is 99-13, and he has won 44 of his last 45 matches. Juergens is a three-time all-American and the defending national champion at 133. Doug Schwab -- 141 pounds Schwab is undefeated at 14-0, 9-0 in dual competition, this season. His career record is 109-20, and he has won his last 18 matches, dating back to 2000 NCAA Championships. The 1999 NCAA Champion and two-time all-American won a title at the 2000 Midlands. T.J. Williams -- 157 pounds Williams is undefeated at 10-0 this season, all in duals. His career record is 79-1. He has won his last 12 matches, dating back to the 2000 NCAA Championships. Gabe McMahan -- 174 pounds McMahan is 12-1 this season, 8-1 in dual competition. His career record is 81-30, and he has won 12 of his last 13 matches. CHAMPIONSHIP EXPERIENCE The Hawkeye wrestling staff of Jim Zalesky, Tom Brands, Lincoln McIlravy, Wes Hand and Joe Williams all wrestled at the University of Iowa. They earned a total of 12 individual NCAA titles, 11 Big Ten titles and 18 all-America honors. Their combined college career wrestling record was 617-58-3 (.912), including six undefeated seasons. IOWA WRESTLING HISTORY Iowa's overall dual meet record is 721-180-30 (.791) in 92 seasons. The Hawkeyes have won 20 national titles, including nine of the last 10, and 28 Big Ten titles. Iowa's 45 NCAA Champions have won a total of 68 NCAA individual titles, crowning six three-time and 11 two-time champions.
