While this tournament was the first test of the new FILA rules in the United States, the rules were well received by Athletes, Coaches and Officials. "The rules really suits my wrestler's styles," said Cumberland College Coach Kip Flanik. "As the officials get more comfortable and consistent with the calls, it will be a benefit to the sport" USA Wrestling's Head National Freestyle Team Coach watched members of his National and Olympic teams compete under the new system. "They're good," said Jackson regarding the new rules. "With some minor adjustments and as calls become more consistent I think it will go well for out athletes." While the tournament got off to a bit of a rough start with some confusion by athletes and officials over the application of the rules, mid-way through the first round things seemed to be running smoothly. FILA Officials provided clinics and demonstrations for officials, coaches and athletes prior to the competition hoping to get everyone on the same page, and took notes of how the rules were applied in competition. "Athletes, coaches and officials all seem to be pleased with the new rules," according to FILA Official Rick Tucci. "Recommendations are going to be brought forth to FILA by Mario Saletnig, and we expect a few tweaks to be made here and there as we go."
