U.S. Maccabiah team determined at Team Trials event in Cleveland, Ohio

The U.S. wrestling team which will participate in the 17th World Maccabiah Games in Israel was determined during the U.S. Maccabiah Team Trials  in Cleveland, Ohio, October 23-24.    The winners of the Maccabiah Team Trials event will represent the United States in wrestling at the event, set for Tel Aviv, Israel in  July.    The Maccabiah Games bring together the best Jewish athletes from around the world to participate in sport and solidarity.    Lindsay Durlacher (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC), a nationally ranked Greco-Roman star on the Senior level, qualified to compete at 60 kg/132 lbs.    Among the other prominent athletes to qualify for the U.S. team are Max Meltzer (Bethesda, Md./Dave Schultz WC) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Blake Kaplan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ohio International) at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Matt Greenberg (Upper Saddle River, N.J./New York AC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.    Coaching the eight-athlete wrestling team is Adam Kantor of Annapolis, Md., who serves as an assistant wrestling coach at the U.S. Naval Academy.    The tournament was wrestled under the new proposed freestyle rules.      Additional results will be posted if they come available.    The games will feature an estimated 6,000 athletes from more than 50 countries, pre-camp cultural program and numerous members of the U.S. Team participating in a B'nai Mitzvah.    Since 1948, Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel has sought to enrich the lives of Jews in the United States, Israel and throughout the Diaspora through athletic, cultural and educational programs.
