2005 USA Wrestling Men's Freestyle and Greco-Roman FILA Junior World Team Selection Process The athlete representatives to the 2005 Men's Freestyle and Greco-Roman FILA Junior World Teams will be selected based upon a team trials process to be held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, May 22-29, 2005. The Champion of the FILA Junior World National Championships, in each style, will be exempt from the challenge tournament, and wrestle a best two out of three bout final against the winner of a challenge tournament to be held a day prior to these final bouts. But the Champion must attend the training camp. The challenge tournament shall be single elimination. The process shall be similar to the selection process utilized for the USAW Senior World Team members. If the FILA Junior World National Champion is not eligible or wishes to not compete for the World Team, the next place winner in succession shall be considered the number one athlete in the wrestle-off process. World Team members must be eligible to hold a United States passport. The above mentioned Team Trials process will be preceded by a mandatory five to ten day training camp (to be decided based upon time and OTC bed space available). Extenuating circumstances may preclude those athletes who have school obligations in regard to the mandatory camp. The athletes, in each style, that will be invited to attend and compete in the Team Trials process shall be based upon the following criteria: · Top three place winners from the 2004 Junior Nationals who meet the age group criteria. · The top six place winners form the 2005 FILA Junior National tournament. · Any All-American from the 2005 University Nationals who meets the age group criteria. · Any All-American from the 2005 NCAA Division I Nationals who meets the age group criteria. · Any All-American from the 2005 Senior Nationals who meets the age group criteria. · The finalists from the 2005 NCAA DII Nationals who meets the age group criteria. · The finalists from the 2005 NCAA DIII Nationals who meets the age group criteria. · The finalists from the 2005 NAIA Nationals who meets the age group criteria. · The finalists from the 2005 Junior College Nationals who meets the age group criteria. · Two wild cards, per weight class, may be selected by the USA Wrestling Developmental Coach for the specific style. The mandatory training camp schedule will follow the below general schedule: · Five to ten days of preparation, focusing on techniques and drills. The athletes would be expected to arrive in competition shape with their weight under control. · Weigh-ins would be conducted the evening prior to the challenge tournament. · After conclusion of the Team Trials process, there will be a final day devoted to preparing the World Team members for the upcoming World competition. National Developmental Coaches will supply journals and training schedules to each athlete World Team member so their progress can be monitored. To further enhance performance of the World Team members, USA Wrestling will attempt to organize a pre-World Championships competition and training camp. Such activities may require that some of the funding be provided by the individual World Team members. As is the case of the Senior Athletes, those athletes that do not have USOC OTC funded access status would be responsible for their room and board expenses involved in the preliminary camp and World Team Trials process. All athletes would be responsible for their own transportation to and from the initial mandatory training camp and World Team Trials process.
