2004 Olympian Toccara Montgomery (Cleveland, Ohio/New York AC) did not make weight and will not compete at the Women's World Cup, held in Tokyo, Japan this weekend. Montgomery was the lone U.S. entry at 72 kg/158 lbs. for the competition. With no additional athletes on the tour, the U.S. will have to forfeit that weight class in all five dual meets during the competition. The United States is the defending Women's World Cup champion, after defeating Japan in the final dual meet of the 2003 World Cup, which was also held in Tokyo, Japan. "The girls are ready and, despite not having Tocarra, we have a good attitude and are planning on defending the title." said USA Wrestling Freestyle Developmental Coach Dave Bennett, one of the U.S. team coaches on the tour. Montgomery was a 2003 World Cup champion, and defeated Japan's five-time World champion Kyoko Hamaguchi in the final match of last year's dual meet, giving the U.S. the final points needed for victory in the deciding bout. Montgomery is a two-time World silver medalist, and placed seventh at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. She is a senior at Cumberland College. The United States is scheduled to face China, India and Canada in dual meets on Friday, and will battle Russia and Japan on Saturday.
