USA Wrestling is excited to announce it has awarded Kansas City, Mo. the 2005 and 2006 Cadet Dual National Championships. The Cadet Dual National Championships are slated for June 23 - 27, 2005 and will be held at the KCI Expo Center. The Kansas City Sports Commission and Missouri USA Wrestling will be involved in hosting this major competition. Cadets are athletes who are 15 and 16 years old. "USA Wrestling was thrilled to receive several outstanding bid applications for the Cadet Dual National Championships," said USA Wrestling Director of National Events Pete Isais. "Our decision to award this National Championships to Kansas City was based on several supporting factors including location, facilities, volunteer base and past success in coordinating USA Wrestling regional and national championships." "Missouri USA Wrestling and the Kansas City Sports Commission are pleased that Kansas City has been selected to host the 2005 and 2006 Cadet Dual National Championships," said Cindy Smith, Director of National Events for the Kansas City Sports Commission. "We have a rich history of hosting wrestling events including a USA vs. Belarus World Dual meet, the NWCA Scholastic Wrestling Showcase, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships and USA Wrestling Kids Folkstyle National Championships." The local organizing committee (LOC) in Kansas City has already organized housing options for the teams and their families. All hotels are located within a 10-minute drive of KCI Airport, the competition venue, and over 50 restaurants. Rooms are limited and need to be booked before the negotiated rate expires May 1, 2005. For housing reservations as well as other information, go to: http://sportkc.org/events/CadetNationalChampionships.htm The KCI Expo Center is located at 11730 North Ambassador Drive in Kansas City, and is three miles from KCI Airport and two blocks from Interstates I-435 and I-29. The facility, which has extensive exhibition hall space, will be configured specifically for wrestling and will be an attractive and efficient venue for the sport. The Cadet Dual National Championships were established to create an opportunity for athletes to compete on their state teams in a dual meet format. The events, which consistently draw the best teams and individual talent from around the country, provide a great opportunity for wrestlers to draw top competition weeks before the Cadet National Championships. "By placing the Dual Championships in Missouri, we are confident this event will continue to offer our young athletes great competition from all corners of the United States while providing an excellent tournament experience," said Isais. The defending Cadet National Duals champion in freestyle is Pennsylvania, which defeated New Jersey in the gold-medal match last year. The defending Cadet National Duals Greco-Roman champion is Minnesota, which beat Oklahoma in the championship round last year. Only one other state has hosted this competition, Colorado, where the tournament was created and held since its inception.
