Ronald Hughes (Hollister, Calif.) won a gold medal at 63 kg in Division B (41-45 years old) at the 2004 Veterans Greco-Roman World Championships in Seinajoki, Finland. Hughes was in a four-man pool, the only four men in the tournament at his weight class. He won his first two matches on Saturday, but lost a heart-breaking 7-7 referee's decision to Dmitry Zangirov of Russia in the final pool match. Still, Hughes was able to win the gold based on classification points. Also in Division B, William Wilkes (Parrish, Fla.) placed fifth at 69 kg and Steve Goss (Bay City, Mich.) placed fourth at 97 kg. In Division C (46-50 years old), Stephen Contarino (Palmetto, Fla.) placed fifth at 85 kg.
