In response to the strong participation in folkstyle wrestling at the youth level, USA Wrestling will continue to expand its popular Ultimate Challenge Series of Folkstyle Wrestling for the 2004-05 season. Last year, the Series was expanded from five events to seven events. USA Wrestling is excited to announce the addition of three new major national-level events that will be included in this year's Ultimate Challenge Series. In an effort to expand the Series to a broader scope of athletes, USA Wrestling has added events in Nevada, Georgia and Arizona. The first of the three new events to take place will be the Las Vegas Nationals - Youth. The event, slated for December 12, is set for the Cashman Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The Las Vegas Nationals will certainly be a competitive tournament as it is the first Ultimate Challenge Series event to be held in the western half of the United States. The following weekend, the Ultimate Challenge Series moves east to the Dixie Nationals hosted at Gwinnett Arena in Duluth, Ga., December 20. In line with USA Wrestling's goal to expand the series throughout the country, The Dixie Nationals will be the first Ultimate Challenge Series event in the southeast. USA Wrestling and the Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club are thrilled to be working together on the third and final addition to the 2004-05 Ultimate Challenge Series calendar. The Sunkist Kids Folkstyle Classic will be held in Arizona after the New Year with an exact date and location still to be determined. Please stay tuned for further details regarding this exciting new event. The 2004-05 Ultimate Challenge Series will also include all seven events from last season. The other popular events to be showcased are: * The Winter Classic at the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville, Ill., Nov. 26-28. * The Brock Lesnar Gopher Kids Classic at the University Center - Rochester Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minn., Dec. 18-19. * The 20th Annual Cotton Bowl Classic at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, December 28-29. * The U.S. Junior Open Championships at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla., Jan. 7-8. * The Liberty Nationals at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., Feb. 26. * Virginia Challenge/USAW Wrestle-FEST 2005 at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Va., March 11-13. * USA Wrestling Folkstyle National Championships at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa, April 1-3. As in years past, the 2004-05 Ultimate Challenge Series will culminate with USA Wrestling's Folkstyle National Championships. However, a new emphasis will be placed on competing in the Folkstyle National Champion-ships, as the top eight award winners will receive double the points for placing in USA Wrestling's premier youth folkstyle event. For the 2004-05 Series, athlete divisions will be determined by the age the participant was on September 1, 2004, and no athlete may turn 16 years old in 2005 and remain eligible. The three age divisions that earn points are Division I (9 & 10 year olds), Division II (11 & 12 year olds) and Division III (13-15 year olds). It should be noted that although several events in the Series include other age-group categories, only these three age-group divisions will score points towards the Dominator awards. A point system based on individual event placing will track the results of each athlete, and at the end of the ten-event series, nine Dominator belts will be awarded to the top point scorers in three age divisions. If there is a tie in points for any of the top three places, the tie shall be determined by the following criteria in order: most 1st place finishes, most 2nd place finishes, most 3rd place finishes, most overall wins, highest number of pins. The athlete scoring the most Dominator points will be recognized as the "Ultimate Dominator" and receive a special award. Don't miss your chance to be the Ultimate Dominator; the quest for the belt begins in Danville. 2004-05 Scoring System: (For all events except USA Wrestling Folkstyle National Championships) 1st Place = 1600 points 2nd Place = 1200 points 3rd Place = 1000 points 4th Place = 900 points 5th Place = 700 points 6th Place = 600 points 7th Place = 400 points 8th Place = 300 points 2004-05 Scoring System: (For USA Wrestling Folkstyle National Championships) 1st Place = 3200 points 2nd Place = 2400 points 3rd Place = 2000 points 4th Place = 1800 points 5th Place = 1400 points 6th Place = 1200 points 7th Place = 800 points 8th Place = 600 points
