The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) will change the date of its annual All-Star Classic to be held Monday, November 22 on the campus of Southern Illinois Univ.-Edwardsville. This will be the 39th time that this event has been held. The event is usually held in the first week of February, just over one month before from the NCAA Division I Championships. The All-Star Classic, presented by the United States Marine Corps, attempts to pit the top two national competitors at each weight class against each other. However, in recent years, many of the top wrestlers in the nation have opted out of this event, citing numerous reasons, including conflict with class schedules. The NWCA did not change the day of the week that the event will be wrestled. In last year's All-Star Classic in Cedar Falls, Iowa, five number-one ranked wrestlers and five number-two ranked wrestlers competed. Three of the matches pitted the top two wrestlers in the country against each other and three matches turned out to be previews of the 2004 NCAA finals.
