Kent State's Thompson named MAC Wrestler of the Week

Kent State's Brent Thompson (125lb., Sr., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) is the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week after going 4-0 last week, with two of his wins coming as major decisions.  Thompson, the three-time MAC champion at 125 lbs., opened the week with a 5-2 decision over Cleveland State's Rocco Mansueto.  He then majored Chris Collins from North Carolina (12-3), decisioned Missouri's Justin Spates (6-5) and closed the tournament with an 11-3 over West Virginia's Gregory West.    Other Nominees For This Week's Award:    Central Michigan's Brett Faustman (197lb., So., Mason, Mich.) went 3-1 at the Virginia Duals, picking up wins over wrestlers from Virginia, Wisconsin and Missouri.  His lone loss came against a grappler from Lock Haven.    Eastern Michigan's Mike Feeney (174lb., Sr., Scioto, Ohio) went 3-0 with two pins in dual matches last week at Franklin & Marshall.  Pinned grapplers from Brown and Duquesne and had a major decision against Franklin & Marshall.    Ohio's Luke Moore (174lb., Springfield, Ohio) was 3-1 last week, including a 2-1 mark at the North Carolina State duals.  His lone loss came against Illinois' Ben King (5-4), the No. 7 wrestler in the nation in his weight class, while notching wins over wrestlers from Binghamton, Princeton and Appalachian State.    2000-01 MAC Wrestlers of the Week  Nov. 28 --  Ahmad Sanders, Central Michigan  Dec. 5 -- Shawn Kegel, Buffalo  Dec. 12 -- Mike Feeney, Eastern Michigan  Dec. 18 -- Nick Magistrelli, Kent State  Jan. 2 -- Mike Feeney, Eastern Michigan  Jan. 9 -- Jason Mester, Central Michigan  Jan. 16 -- Brent Thompson, Kent State    MAC Wrestling Team Notes:    -Central Michigan finished second last weekend at the Virginia Duals, falling to Lock Haven in the championship match.  The Chippewas defeated Virginia, Wisconsin and Missouri along the way to reach the title contest. CMU, which opens its MAC schedule Sunday at Ohio, is unbeaten in its last 14 league dual matches.    -Eastern Michigan went 1-1-1 at the Franklin & Marshall duals, improving the Eagles' dual match record this season to 8-7-2.  The eight wins for EMU are the most in one season in six years.  EMU's Mike Feeney, who has been named the MAC Wrestler of the Week twice this season, is ranked third in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News.  Feeney, who wrestles at 174 lbs., is 28-2 this season with 15 pins.    -Ohio's Joel Greenlee is 13-2-1 against MAC teams in his first two seasons as head coach of the Bobcats' program.  Both of his losses have come against Central Michigan.  Before Ohio's MAC-opening match with CMU on Sunday, the Bobcats will host nationally-ranked North Carolina on Saturday.    -Kent State, which was one of three MAC school's at the Virginia Duals, opened the tournament with a win over nationally-ranked North Carolina, 25-9.  The Golden Flashes then dropped two close contests to Missouri (18-15) and West Virginia (22-21).
