Olympic wrestlers to be honored during weekend football games

Four U.S. men's freestyle Olympic wrestlers will be honored during this weekend's football games at their alma maters.    Gold medalist Cael Sanderson will be honored at halftime of the Iowa State vs. Northern Illinois game in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 18. The game begins at 11:30 a.m. (Central Time) and will be broadcast regionally on Fox Sports Net.    Sanderson also will be honored at a campus rally at noon at The Campanile on Friday, Sept. 17. The rally is open to the public. Iowa State President Gregory Geoffroy, athletics director Bruce Van De Velde, Olympic and Iowa State head coach Bobby Douglas and Sanderson will speak. The event will be emceed by Iowa State radio play-by-play announcer John Walters.    Sanderson finished his collegiate career at Iowa State as the only wrestler in college history to win four NCAA titles and go undefeated with a 159-0 record. He is the fifth former Iowa State wrestler to capture an Olympic gold medal.    Silver medalist Jamill Kelly along with teammates Eric Guerrero and Daniel Cormier will be honored on the field during the Oklahoma State vs. SMU game in Stillwater, Okla. on Saturday, Sept. 18. The game begins at 6:00 p.m. (Central Time) and will be broadcast regionally on Fox Sports Net.    Cormier placed fourth in the Olympic games and was an NCAA runner-up for Oklahoma State in 2001. Guerrero won three NCAA titles for the Cowboys (1997-99).
