Update on Veterans World Freestyle Championships in Czech Republic through Saturday

USA Wrestling has received an update through September 11 from the 2004 Veterans World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic.    USA Wrestling National Freestyle Developmental Coach Dave Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) phoned in the following information. There has been no results provided to the delegation at the event, so this is the information that is available at this time. More will be posted when reported to USA Wrestling.    Through the second day of competition, one U.S. wrestler had already clinched a gold medal in his weight class, Shirzad Ahmadi of Coventry, Conn.    The following wrestlers had earned a spot in the gold-medal finals in their divisions:  Div. B 76 kg - Brad Swartz (Auburn, Wash.)  Div. B 97 kg - Dale Porcher (W. Palm Beach Fla.)  Div. D 69 kg - Russ Cozart (Brandon, Fla.)  Div. E 76 kg - Gordon Connell (Chattanooga, Tenn.)  Div. E 63 kg - Jack Hornbuckle (Poteau, Okla.)    According to Bennett the following wrestlers had already secured a bronze medal:  Div. A 58 kg - Charles Brooks (Fulton, Mo.)  Div. C 58 kg - Steve Hart (Parker, Colo.)  Div. E 58 kg - Ed Knecht (Peoria, Ariz.)  Div. D 63 kg - Peter Zurfleigh (Camp Hill, Pa.)  Div. E 69 kg - James Baron (Dallas, Texas)    According to Bennett the following wrestlers placed fourth in tournament:  Div A 69 kg - Steve Horton (Belleville, Ill.)  Div.B 63 kg - James Kasser (Lewis Center, Ohio)  Div. B 97 kg - Eric Harmon (Lakeside, Ariz.)  Div. C 69 kg - Kurt Beinlich (Hudson, Wis.)    According to Bennett, "the competition level has been very good."    More information will be posted when available. Complete results of all U.S. wrestlers will be posted when the U.S. delegation receives that material.
