Paula McGahee of Georgia named USA Wrestling State Chairperson of the Year

USA Wrestling has selected Paula McGahee of Powder Springs, Ga. as the State Chairperson of the Year. The award recognized achievement and contributions to the sport and to their state association by one of USA Wrestling's State Chairpersons.    McGahee has been instrumental in providing leadership for the Georgia association, which has grown in size and expanded its activities in recent years. In her tenure as State Chairperson, Georgia has increased membership for the past five years. The average increase in memberships and clubs has been an amazing 11% per year.     She has expanded USA Wrestling programs all across the state. Georgia teams have attended each major USA Wrestling regional and national event and has reached new levels of success at these competitions. Under her direction, the state has doubled its fall folkstyle season and expanded its annual folkstyle state championships to over 700 participants. She has instituted a bronze-level coaches certification requirement at all state championship events.    She has been actively involved in leadership positions in her region on all levels. She is well-respected by her peers among grassroots leaders. McGahee is an efficient administrator who provide quality service to the members in her state. Prior to becoming state chairperson, she served as the state association's secretary for two years. She has served as trip leader for a number of Team Georgia teams on all levels for the last seven years.    She has also served as the vice-president of her local high school booster club for five years. She has had two sons who have competed in Georgia's state wrestling programs. She runs an insurance business as her profession.
