Three defending champions undefeated after first day of Junior Greco-Roman National Championships

Fargo, N.D. - Three of the five defending champions in the ASICS/Vaughan Junior Greco-Roman National Championships remain undefeated after the first day of competition at the FargoDome.    2003 double-champion Brent Metcalf of Michigan stormed through his opponents, posting a 5-0 record at 145 lbs., including one win by fall. In his other four matches, Metcalf outscored his opponents 46-0.    Other defending champions still undefeated are Rocky Cozart of Florida at 160 lbs. and Dustin Fox of Ohio at 275 lbs. Both posted 3-0 records on the day.    Joe Weygand of Pennsylvania injury defaulted in his second match at 98 lbs. Healthsouth medical staff confirmed that he will not continue to compete for the rest of the Greco-Roman tournament, but no other details of his injury could be reported at this time.    Brandon Zoeteway of California, lost his third match 9-7 to Josh Strait of Idaho, who remains undefeated himself at 112 lbs.    There were also 10 2003 Cadet Greco-Roman national champions competing at the Junior level this year.    Seven of those wrestlers remain undefeated following the first day.    Winning all three of their matches were 2003 Cadet national champions Henry Cejudo of Arizona at 112 lbs., Alton Lucas of New York at 160 lbs. and Erik Nye of California at 215 lbs.    2003 Cadet national champions that went 4-0 on the first day are Troy Nickerson of New York at 119 lbs., Dallas Seavey of Alaska at 130 lbs., Matt Dragon of Pennsylvania at 140 lbs. and Kyle Bounds of Washington at 152 lbs.    Ending the day with one loss were 2003 Cadet national champions Mike Thorn of Minnesota at 119 lbs., Matt Lopez of Arizona at 140 lbs. and Louis Caputo of Missouri at 189 lbs.    Overall, a Junior Greco-Roman record 946 wrestlers competed in the tournament, surpassing the previous record of 922 set in 2002.
