Defending champs Altman and O'Donnell stay undefeated after first day of Cadet Greco-Roman National

Fargo, N.D. - Both defending champions in the ASICS/Vaughan Cadet Greco-Roman National Championships have defended their crowns decisively to this point.    Donny Altman of Kansas won his first four matches at 91 lbs. and Scott O'Donnell of Missouri won all six of his matches at 112 lbs. in the first day of competition at the FargoDome.    Altman won twice by fall, and two other times by technical superiority.    O'Donnell received scares in his final two matches, winning both in overtime.    In all, 958 wrestlers stepped onto the mats in Cadet Greco-Roman action. Two of those competitors were women: Joey Miller of Oklahoma and Fyren Gassman of Virginia, both at 98 lbs.    Interestingly, Miller and Gassman met in the third round in an elimination match. Gassman won a 5-4 decision before dropping her fourth-round bout to be knocked out of the tournament.    Winning all of their matches on day one were 2003 All-Americans Jake Quinten of Pennsylvania at 91 lbs. (4-0), Paul Gentry of Idaho at 98 lbs. (5-0), Matthew Kyler of Pennsylvania at 98 lbs. (4-0), Zach Sanders of Minnesota at 105 lbs. (6-0), Kelly Kubec of Washington at 112 lbs. (6-0), Matt Vacanti of Nebraska at 119 lbs. (6-0), Mike Powers of Connecticut at 140 lbs. (5-0), Brandon Sitch of Washington at 140 lbs. (5-0), Adam Hall of Idaho at 145 lbs. (5-0), Talon Knox of Utah at 152 lbs. (4-0), Jesse Robbins of Florida at 152 lbs. (4-0), Rob Waltko of Pennsylvania at 152 lbs. (4-0), Kaleb Young of Minnesota at 160 lbs. (4-0), Pat Flynn of Pennsylvania at 189 lbs. (4-0), Brent Eidenshank of Minnesota at 215 lbs. (4-0) and Skip Crooks of Wyoming at 215 lbs. (4-0).    Cadet action will resume on Sunday at 4 p.m. (Central Time).
