Boston College head wrestling coach Rod Buttry has confirmed that junior All-American heavyweight wrestler Antonio Garay has been cleared to wrestle for the Eagles effective this Monday, January 15th. Garay was the top returning All-American in his weight class coming into this season, placing fourth at the 2000 NCAA Championships and winning the Most Falls Trophy. Many preseason rankings had Garay at No. 1 at heavyweight. Garay is also a star on the Eagle's nationally ranked football team. He has been sidelined from both football and wrestling with a deep bone bruise in his leg, suffered during the Eagles first football game of the season. "Antonio has been cleared by his doctor to practice in the room ," said Buttry. "He is 100% healed at this point and has been wrestling and conditioning on his own as well as playing basketball." Buttry also added, "We look for Antonio to hopefully win the national championship, which would definitely make him Boston College's most profilic athlete. He is also an All-American for football and eventually will have a very strong shot at the NFL." Garay will see his first competition of the season on January 20 when Boston College takes on Brown University in a dual meet in Providence, Rhode Island at 1:00 p.m.
