14 wrestlers remain alive for Triple Crown by winning Kids National Greco-Roman Championships in Men

Event Photos  A total of 14 wrestlers kept alive the dream of winning the prestigious USA Wrestling Kids Triple Crown, by capturing the second leg of the series, the Kids National Greco-Roman Championships in Menomonie, Wis., July 1.    Included in this group is the most successful wrestler in USA Wrestling' Kids history since the beginning of the Triple Crown program, Riley Adamson of Rio Rancho, N.M., who captured the Greco-Roman title at 95 pounds on the Schoolboy/girl age level (13-14). Adamson pinned Dylan Alton of Lock Haven, Pa. in 3:40 in the gold-medal match.    Adamson has won the Triple Crown five straight times. He has two Triple Crowns as a Midget and as a Novice, and captured a Schoolboy Triple Crown last year. If he wins the freestyle title on Saturday, he will win Triple Crown No. 6,  sweeping the Kids Triple Crown in all six years that he was eligible.    Adamson is one of six Schoolboy/girl  wrestlers who remain eligible for the Triple Crown. Also capturing the second leg of the series at this age group were Sharky Slyter of Paola, Kan. at 70 pounds, Nick Lester of Wildwood, Mo. at 90 pounds, Joshua Wiseman of Brooklyn Park, Minn. at 120 pounds, Grant Gambrall of Iowa City, Iowa at 130 pounds and Sam Miller of Lewis, Ind. at 225 pounds.    Slyter scored a 10-0 technical fall over Chaz Lawrence of Olathe, Kan. in the finals. Lester edged Derek Olson of Franklin, Wis., 4-1. Wiseman needed overtime to beat Kyle Ulrey of Greenfield, Ind., 3-1. Gambrall stopped Jon Peden of Allentown, Pa., 6-4. Miller pinned Kyle Angel of Crown Point, Ind. in 1:37.    There were four athletes in the Novice Division (ages 11-12) and four athletes in the Midget Division (ages 9-10) who are also still in the hunt for the Triple Crown.     The Novice athletes still in the hunt for the Triple Crown are Cody Brewer of Kansas City, Mo. at 65 pounds, Ravaughn Perkins of Omaha, Neb. at 75 pounds, Nick Moore of Durango, Iowa at 95 pounds and Brett Jaeckel of Hendersonville, Tenn. at 140+ pounds.    In the finals, Brewer beat Carson Kuhn of Sandy, UT), 11-4. Perkins scored a 13-3 technical fall over Dylan Ness of Bloomington, Minn. Moore defeated another national folkstyle champion in Ben Morgan of Catoosa, Okla., 12-4. Jaeckel pinned Enrique Ramirez of Selma, Calif. in 2:24,    The four Midget athletes still chasing the Triple Crown are Brandon Sorenson of Cedar Falls, Iowa at 70 pounds, Oliver Pierce of Allen, Texas at 80 pounds, Glenn Climmons of Hiram, Ga. at 103 pounds and Alexander Lennartson of Balsam Lake, Wis. at 120 pounds.    Sorenson beat  Grant Bousnon of Wisconsin, 12-4 in the finals. Pierce stopped Mitch Sliga of Noblesville, Ind., 5-1. Climmons pinned Stevan Stewart of Redding, Calif. in 2:02, Lennartson won a three-athlete roundrobin, scoring two pins.    The first leg of the Triple Crown was the USA Wrestling Kids Folkstyle Nationals, held in Cedar Falls, Iowa in April.     A number of wrestlers won the Kids Greco-Roman Nationals for the second straight year, including Adamson, Brewer and Slyter. Others winning the Greco-Roman gold for the second time in a row were John Sims of Evansville, Ind. (Novice 90), Riley Ewalt of Hubbartson, Mich. (Schoolboy 85), Isaac Eichmann of Hastings, Minn. (Midget 112), Laddie Rupp of Perry, Okla. (80) and Travis Rutt of Belle Plaine, Minn. (Schoolboy 115).    There were 450 athletes entered in the Greco-Roman division, an increase from last year. All of the athletes who are entered in the competition must have participated in their USA Wrestling Kids Regional event. The six USA Wrestling Regionals are the Northeast, Southeast, Central, Northern Plains, Southern Plains and West, and were held earlier this spring.    The Kids Freestyle Nationals are set for Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3.
