Four-time state champions Jeff Jaggers (135) of Bedford (Ohio) St. Peter Chanel High and Seth Garvin (171) of Homewood (Ala.) High were among 10 seniors named to the 14-member First Team as the 19th annual ASICS Tiger High School All-American Wrestling Team was announced today. The ASICS Tiger All-American Team, selected by a nationwide panel of wrestling experts, is the only national all-star team for which wrestlers completing all four high-school grades are eligible. Asics Tiger is the title sponsor of USA Wrestling's Junior National Championships and is a major benefactor of the sport at all levels. "This team represents the best of the best in our schools today," said Neil Duncan, president of TW Promotions. "We are proud to have these young men, with their talent and work ethic, representing us. They are clearly the world and Olympic champions of the future." Members of the First Team, as well as the ASICS Tiger Wrestler of the Year, will be honored prior to the finals of the ASICS/Vaughan Junior National Freestyle Championships July 31 at Fargo, N.D. The Asics Tiger All-America Team includes eight wrestlers at each of the 14 high school weight classes - the First, Second, and Third Teams and five Honorable Mention selections. Wrestlers are considered at the weight class at which they competed in their state tournament or the National Prep Championships this year. Jaggers is one of four Ohio wrestlers voted to the First Team. Junior Dustin Schlatter (140) and senior Steve Luke (160), both three-time state champions, hail from the same school, Massillon Perry High. The fourth First Team member from the Buckeye State is senior Joe Dennis (215) from St. Paris Graham High. Garvin is the first Alabama wrestler ever to earn a First team selection. Davison (Mich.) High, which has quietly become a national power in the last several years, also landed a pair of First Team members, senior Paul Donahoe (119) and junior Brent Metcalf (145). Iowa and New Jersey also landed a pair of First Team selections. The lightest member of the team, sophomore T.J. Sebolt (103) from Centerville High, and the heaviest, senior Matt Fields (275) of Stanwood North Cedar High, have combined for five Iowa state titles. Sophomore Mike Grey (112) of Morristown Delbarton High and senior Ryan Goodman (189) of Absecon Absegami High each have won a pair of New Jersey titles. Senior Michael Poeta (152) of Highland Park (Ill.) High is the only repeat member of the First Team. The two-time state champion earned the nod at 140 pounds as a junior. Rounding out the First Team: seniors Coleman Scott (125) of Waynesburg (Pa.) Central High and Nathan Morgan (130) of Bakersfield (Calif.) High, both three-time state champions. The 14 First Team members combined to post 37 state high school or National Prep championships, along with 10 Junior National and 11 Cadet National titles. The Second and Third Teams are not far behind. The Second Team boasts 36 state titles, including four four-time champions, to go with one Junior National title and five Cadet National titles. Led by four-time champion Charlie Falck (119) of Apple Valley (Minn.) High and four three-time champions, the Third Team boasts 29 combined titles and four Cadet National crowns. Ohio placed 15 wrestlers on the overall squad, including nine selections to the top three teams, to lead all states, followed by Pennsylvania (14) and Illinois (eight). California, Iowa, Minnesota and New Jersey each had six selections. The 112 wrestlers selected come from 31 states. 2004 ASICS Tiger High School All-American Team First Team 103 - T.J.
