Univ. of Tennessee-Chattanooga head coach Terry Brands has announced the hiring of Steve Hamilton as his head assistant coach, effective on July 1. Hamilton last coached at the collegiate level at the Univ. of Nebraska during the 2000-01 season. Brands was also an assistant coach with that team. "He's a great recruiter and he compliments my style," Brands said. "I trust him to come in here and help keep this program on the right track towards success." Hamilton comes to Chattanooga after serving as an assistant wrestling coach at Sarasota High School in Florida. Prior to coaching at Nebraska, Hamilton spent three years as an assistant coach at the Univ. of Northern Iowa (1997-2000) and five season as a coach with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club (1992-97). As an freestyle competitor, Hamilton placed third at 1993 U.S. World Team Trials. Hamilton competed at Iowa State Univ. He is one of only eight Cyclone wrestlers to earn NCAA All-American status four-times. He was voted Iowa State's Most Valuable Wrestler as a junior and senior. A native of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Hamilton was a four-time state Iowa state placewinner, winning the title twice.
