The 2001 Greco-Roman Training Camp has begun at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The camp will run from Jan. 8 to Jan. 20. The camp will consist of the 2000 Olympic team, 2000-01 Team USA members, along with the Greco-Roman Olympic training center resident athletes. The entire Greco-Roman Olympic team will be at the camp except Olympic Bronze medalist Garrett Lowney (Appleton, Wis./Minnesota Storm) and Steven Mays (Pensacola, Fla./U.S. Navy). Olympic Champion Rulon Gardner (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) will be in Colorado Springs for the first time in long time. He has been on his whirlwind of a ride since defeating the former unbeatable Alexander Kareline of Russia in Sydney. Gardner has been on shows like Oprah, The Tonight Show, The Late Show, Good Morning America, Rosie O'Donnell and many others. Olympic Silver medalist Matt Lindland (Milwaukie, Ore./Sunkist Kids) is back on the mat as well. Other 2000 Olympians in attendance are: Jim Gruenwald (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), Kevin Bracken (Colorado Springs, Colo./NYAC), Heath Sims (Huntington Beach, Calif./Dave Schultz WC) and Quincey Clark (New Brighton, Minn./Minnesota Storm). Look for feature stories and question and answers interviews with the Olympians on TheMat.com in the near future.
