Hofstra's DeBruin Wrestler of Week and Drexel's Heverly Rookie of Week for ECWA

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ--Jason DeBruin of Hofstra University was named the East Coast Wrestling Association Wrestler of the Week, and Bill Heverly of Drexel University was named the ECWA Rookie of the Week, for all competition between December 11 and January 7. DeBruin, a junior 141 pounder from Spencerport, NY (Spencerport High), placed third at the prestigious Midlands Championships, winning five of six bouts, and leading Hofstra to a fourth place finish among the 34 teams. Currently ranked fifth in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News and sixth by Intermat, DeBruin recorded a fall at Midlands, and defeated the fourth seed, Chad Erikson of Minnesota 16-7. DeBruin defeated the seventh seed, Matt Goldstein of Lehigh, 2-1 in the battle for third place. DeBruin also won his first ECWA bout of the season. Heverly, a freshman 133 pounder from Pine Hill, NJ (Camden Catholic High), went 2-0 at the Buckeye Duals, winning by fall over 17th ranked Jeff Ratliff of Ohio State and defeating his Eastern Michigan opponent. Heverly improved to 10-6 overall, 5-2 in duals, and is currently ranked fourth in the ECWA in his weight class.
